My senior year I volunteered to be a teachers aide at a local elementary school. I often think about my mentor teacher that year and her passion for teaching. She always created a welcoming and nurturing environment for her students. Her influence is what initially sparked my interest in becoming a teacher. In my classroom I try to emulate the same level of care, compassion and promote creativity with my students now.
I live for the AHA! moment when my students first understand something new. I love seeing the learning taking place and then seizing those teachable moments. I love that everything is new to them. They are full of questions and excited to try anything and everything. I love that I have the opportunity to share so many “firsts” with my students. Those moments with my kids make me smile everyday.
